Table of contents is often considered to be one of the most unspectacular design elements ever invented. Because of its simple, usual form, table of contents is often not given the attention it may deserve — after all, it is just a list of the parts of a book or document organized in the order in which the parts appear. But why not use exactly that and surprise the reader of a booklet, brochure, annual report or a book with some beautiful and original table of contents? As a web designer I’m always looking for ways to get inspired when working on new projects. Usually this means searching the various web design galleries for some inspirational web designs. However, recently I’ve found inspiration from some quite unusual sources. Take a look at this variety of inspirational work, and you might find that it can help motivate and inspire you on your next project.

The basic point of this post is to show you that you don’t have to rely on the CSS Galleries to inspire you, there is a lot of creative work out there in various other mediums that will help get you in a creative mood.

This post has quite a lot of images so please be patient while the images load, I assure you they are worth the wait.

Amazing Matte Paintings

Matte paintings are used to enhance movie sets, by either adding to, or creating an extensive backdrop. Nowadays all of this work is made digitally using a Graphics Tablet, and such work can be loaded into a 3D program to create a 3D environment. The level of detail here is amazing, some very realistic work and very visually appealing.

Everyone who is interested in design stumples upon this page once in a while. I have seen lots of graphic designer doing wallpaper for them. On their side they have a huge load of great wallpaper and I took 15 of my favourite to show you.

The FWA is also a great design inspiration source for every day. Its really worth to check them out.

For this article I picked fiveteen great wallpapers you can all download at their wallpaper section on their site. Its awesome to see how lots graphic artists use the three letter of the FWA in many different styles.

During a little visit to Fubiz yesterday, I ran into something that really got my attention: Videogame remake wallpapers! These are really incredible and just blew my mind!

Since many people didn't find the link to the author's page and didn't get to download these wallpapers, I'm also posting abou it and making direct links to each wallpapers. Orioto, the author, is SO cool that he even released XL versions for printing... for FREE! Now that's what I call sharing. I'm totally hanging Mario in my wall. This dude is awesome. Ever since its conception, Desktopography has been a non-profit, fun project and we would encourage you to share this site with family, friends and people you know, there is something here for everyone not just designers. Most of the wallpapers here can be downloaded in a variety of sizes
